Update

I never got a subcription to backpacker but I have been buying it and reading it. Although its been unseasonably warm My winter hiking ideas kind of flopped, i just don't have the money to throw at it. That's part of it, oh I got a new day pack more army surplus.

A day hike

I went on a sort of short hike around Newton Hills on Holloween, I know I've been neglecting My blog. But thats part of not having internet access at home anymore, there wasn't a whole lot of leaves around suprisingly enough. I also noticed that it was really dry, we haven't had any precipitation for quite some time, until today.

Pikes

I thought I found some pikes or "trekking poles" with some cross country ski's at a garage sale but when I got there they were gone.( might eventually buy some) I also never heard back from backpacker about My subscription, I guess those two free magazines put Me in a black book or something. So it hasn't been a very good month for Me with regards to hiking, considering I haven't exchanged My boots(which I meant to do in August) or made it out.

Soccer day

I got to see a replay of the big "soccer day" match on espn 2 the L.A. galaxy vs Kansas City whatevers.(wizards) Honestly compared to the handful of matches I've seen these teams looked like they should be in short pants. The San Diego team (flash or vikings not sure) is probably the best team I have seen next to the women's national team. The ending penalty kick where David Beckham pummels opposing guy in the center of the head and k.o.'s him, doing that kept the tie for the wizards, but jese. Ok, Omar Bravo was the dude that got hit in the head I think, Beckham obviously the franchise trying to teach this team to play.. I wish I could see the Russia vs Brazil game tomorrow, the cool thing about it is it's fast moving & there are a lot of games to watch.

State fair

Me and My Mom took the 1:45 minute drive to Huron SD for the state fair.
In spite of Me getting only five hours of sleep I still had a pretty good time, lots of riding around on overloaded wagons.
I found this glory hole while I was there I couldn't pass up snapping a picture, it turned out crappy and I wasn't going to take a second.
Lots of the women are very pretty and I would be lying if I said that wasn't a part of it for Me. This is Miss "SD state fair" who in My opinion isn't a good example, maybe they'll pick a better one this year. This is a line of vendors.

I found that turkey.

Page views

My web pages have been getting a lot of mysterious clicks lately from most notably China. What really bugs Me are the people that look at My music page and don't listen to any music.
So here are some pictures of the people I think might be looking at My web pages.

Scrap booking

I found an empty scrapbook for a dollar so I started scrap booking.(I'm doing seasons) I really picked a hobby this time as Paris Hilton is cashing in on it.
I guess I can't talk about her without talking about the movie which My friend did have, and I did see. I was too loaded to remember much of it though, must not've been good. I have no children or family and that seems to be what this is all about, so thus far its come off as being kind of demented.

8/6/2011 Beaver creek & tools

I got ready & managed to get out there but 'no hiking was done."
As you can see this trail is completely overgrown, in the interest of this blog I had to take a picture though. When I was here to years ago the main bridge was in rough shape and this time was closed, I'm not completely upset they made cuts here.
'I'll take some time" to talk about some of My gear I carry in My day pack, the folding pliers is made by gerber of all people. And is pretty heavy duty I originally used My former friends as a roach clip. But a few years later My Mom picked it up at a car wash and gave it to Me. How I ended up getting one of My former friends most valued possessions I'll never know. Basically it was just a piece of junk though, they're rather expensive but I replaced it with a new one, so far I've used it to open a gas station sandwich.
The compass it from REI and does more spinning than anything, but its better than no compass.

A short hike

I couldn't make it out of town today so I went up to Tut hill again. I wore My camelbak since it was extremely hot again.
Actually it was probably a few degrees warmer as I'm getting to this late, most of the trail washed away with the 5 inches of rain. I couldn't chase down the water cooler I wanted to snag last time.
I caught My neighbor doing a hardcore public display of affection in front of his house.

Obviously he probably got laid with this bar fluusy.(or she probably was) {personally I try not to p.d.a. that bad, it's tacky} I did have a horned out dream about the special woman in My life, But I haven't talked to her in a long time.
I also bought some new music, please excuse the video.

Lewis & Clark lake

I went on a short hike after My 21 mile bike ride. The heat was through the roof, about 98'f and I was soaked at the end of it.
I had to walk through that swampy stinky slime to even get to the trail.
After that I ate some steak.

Rockets pt. 2

I actually tried to combine this hobby with mountain biking one time, maybe I can combine it with hiking someday.

It took Me awhile to find this one again.

Fake hike

I have been falling off on the hiking blog again, so I was thinking about posting a fake hike. Which I would make with google image, the hike would be on a fake trip to Big Bend national park Texas. Thankfully I would complete the hike without getting struck by lightening or being bit by a snake or getting stuck in a cacti.

6/4/2011 Newton hills short hike

I may have not done some of the things I was going to do today, but I did make it on about a three mile hike.

There was a young family on the trail, which I don't think was a great idea at that time because moving a little slower the bugs would've got you. I also saw a couple in there early twenties at the end that must've came from the campground. The whole hike took Me a half hour!

...At least I'm using this blog for something besides posting nonsense.

Photography randomness

These are prayer flags normally associated with buddhism, I spotted them at the utarian church while skateboarding.
This photo is from another skateboard ride, and no I haven't been doing any hiking. I like these new diet coke cans so I took this pic with My cell phone camera.

Another short hike

I went the same place I went last time tutt hill park/preserve I was going to go row but I've been having some health problems. Plus they raised the price, I got to test out My waterproof windbreaker as it started raining steadily during this hike. Otherwise the weather has been really nice here, it just recently turned crappy. I'm under alot of stress lately I had to cancel a dental appointment because of money problems, and not seeing the girl. So a scant 2 mile hike in Sioux Falls didn't really relax Me honestly. I was going to try to shoot a picture for this but My camera ended up being dead, like I said more content coming soon. On a side note I found a water cooler, which I left, however I was unable to find any disks for My friend.

    I'm planning a hike

For Saturday(ha ha ha) normally when I plan anything it never happens, but I'm looking forward to getting out on the trails at Newton hills. As long as we don't get any precipitation before then.

    Tribute to Japan

I have always had some interest in Japanese culture, and have been trying to do some kind of tribute for some time sense I have nothing to contribute. I have always wanted a Japanese kite, these look really nice so I think it fits. I've been trying to find My way over to the Japanese gardens at Terrace park here and walk through, but haven't been able to. I remember I took a origami class over there as a kid and learned to fold a paper crane, but had to quit the class early because My grandma got in a fight with them. None the less, I've been disappointed at how people view these disasters here.

    Update

I've been meaning to get out and hike, but the trail conditions are still too wet here. I did do a legnthy 3mile walk at lake pajoia which I would count but it was on pavement. Also the was a balked up trip to the hills that was in the works, this would allow hiking at harney peak. Probably the best hike in the state, but also the badlands. I thought I would post this snake bite first aid video for anyone who might be headed into rattler territory

before I do. More content coming soon.

    Short hike

I went on a short hike today about 2 1/2 miles long, it was nice and it felt great to get out and do something. A couple people were on the trail with snow shoes they probably did alot better. I fell down alot, I'm probably lucky I didn't break My camera I took a picture but it wasn't worth saving.

    Hiking boots

Sence My winter hikes got balked up by excess snow and other issues I've been neglecting this blog.

I thought I would put together a piece on boots, these are My main footwear actually. There My second pair comfortable shoes and otherwise good, but I found the souls were wearing out in four weeks. So I reinforced them using a dairy queen dilly bar stick and glue,(or goo) I have done some pretty heavy duty hiking in them also. Kind of an urban boot, for more serious hikes I was planning to buy ll bean boots but due to My current financial bind I was stuck on what to do for awhile. I already had altama boots from an army surplus store so I ended up using a standard all leather boot, they work really well.

8/26/2010 Newton Hills State prk SD

On this day I hiked a trail I previously would have mountain biked, I took a picture of this bridge which is due to be torn down. Also I can remember crossing it as a scout. This bright fungi caught My eye, this 5 1/2 miles of trail is quite a bit of fun but has heavy equestrian traffic.
This blurry shot was My fisrt attempt at wildlife photography with only 3x zoom its nothing to rave about.

    4/1/2010 Stone state prk IA

As You can see from this photo some people of Sioux City live on bluffs which are called loess hills. You will also notice if You look on google earth that they are all dug into the hills and stuff, I like Sioux City better than Minneapolis. One reason is its alot easier to get to and your car probably won't break down on the way.You learn from this display that a hundred million years ago Sioux City was at the bottom of a inland sea. As the seas dried up it formed the loess hills, and for the next 50 million years the Sioux City area was a swamp. Also a sidenote(if I took the time to add one) would be that do to changes in rainfall the hills are disappearing, this is all part of a cool youth education program to protect the bluffs.
This picture(taken at a slant) marks the beginning of the hike which is called buffalo run trial.
Here's another obviously this was done in the early spring this place is part of a tall forest.Stone state park was built as part of Roosevelts new deal, we found this interesting tunnel. This view of Iowa is the enchilada after a lengnthy climb.
